title: "Caller ID and spam registration"
description: "Show your business name on calls and register your numbers with the carriers' spam filters, so more people pick up."
---

Phone carriers decide whether your call shows as your business, as a plain
number, or as "Spam Likely". Registering your numbers with the carriers' spam
filters and showing your business name makes people more likely to answer.
Everything on this page is free.

Find it on **Phone Numbers** (`/dashboard/phone-numbers`), in the
**Caller ID and spam registration** section under your numbers. Each number
shows three things:

| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| **Caller name** | The business name people see when you call (CNAM). |
| **Verified caller ID** | Carriers check that the call really comes from your number (SHAKEN/STIR). Unverified calls are more often labeled spam. |
| **Spam-filter registration** | The number is registered with the spam filters the major US carriers use, so they know who is calling. |

## ThunderPhone numbers: done for you

- **Caller name.** A new ThunderPhone number gets your organization's caller
  name when you buy it. Saving the caller name applies it to every ThunderPhone
  number you have.
- **Verified caller ID.** Calls from ThunderPhone numbers are verified by our
  carrier automatically.
- **Spam-filter registration** is not offered for ThunderPhone numbers yet; the
  page shows **Not offered yet**.

### Set your caller name

The caller name starts as your organization's name, cut to fit. If your
organization still has the name it was created with ("Jane's Team"), there is
no caller name until you set one. Only organization admins can change it, on
**Phone Numbers** or in **Organization Settings**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the caller name">
    On **Phone Numbers**, click **Edit caller name**, or use **Edit** in the
    **Caller name** card in **Organization Settings**.
  </Step>
  <Step title="Type the name">
    Up to 15 characters: letters, numbers and spaces, starting with a letter.
    Leave it blank to use your organization's name. The dialog shows what calls
    will display.
  </Step>
  <Step title="Save">
    ThunderPhone sends the name to the carriers for every ThunderPhone number.
    Turn off **Show a caller name** to stop showing one.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Carriers take 1 to 3 days to show a new name. Landlines show caller names
  reliably; many mobile phones show them only sometimes, or show their own
  label instead.
</Note>

## Numbers in your own Twilio or Telnyx account

Registering a number in your own carrier account changes that account, so
ThunderPhone only does it when an organization admin asks, one number or a few
at a time. Click **Register** in the column you want, choose the numbers, and
confirm. ThunderPhone uses the credentials saved on your
[VoIP connection](/guides/voip-providers).

| | Telnyx | Twilio |
|---|---|---|
| Caller name | Yes, set with your API key. **Turn off** removes it again. | Yes, a CNAM registration in Twilio's Trust Hub. |
| Verified caller ID | Managed in your Telnyx account. | Yes: the number joins a SHAKEN/STIR registration, so Twilio verifies your calls at the highest level (A instead of B). |
| Spam-filter registration | Managed in your Telnyx account. | Yes, through Twilio Voice Integrity. You tell us what the calls are for, your employee count and your daily call volume. |

Caller names are for US local numbers only: carriers don't list them on
toll-free or non-US numbers, so those numbers show no **Register** button for a
caller name. For SignalWire, Vonage and other SIP carriers, register in your
carrier's own console.

### Before you register Twilio numbers

Twilio needs an approved **Primary Business Profile** in its Trust Hub first.
If your account has none, ThunderPhone says so and links to the
[Twilio Trust Hub](https://console.twilio.com/us1/account/trust-hub/overview).
Create the profile there; Twilio usually reviews it within 1 to 3 days. Then
click **Register** again.

When you register, ThunderPhone adds each number to your Business Profile,
reuses your account's existing registration of that kind or creates one, adds
the numbers to it and submits it for review. Registering again never creates a
duplicate. When your account already has a spam-filter registration, new
numbers join it, and the answers you give now (what the calls are for, employee
count, daily calls) are not used; change them in Twilio's Trust Hub.

### Statuses

| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **Sending** | ThunderPhone is sending it to your carrier. |
| **Submitted** | The carrier has it and is about to review it. |
| **In review** | The carrier is reviewing it. Reviews usually take 1 to 3 days. |
| **Approved** | Done. A caller name can take up to 3 more days to reach every carrier. |
| **Rejected** | The carrier said no; the reason shows under the status. Fix it in Twilio's Trust Hub, then click **Try again**. |
| **Needs attention** | Something stopped the registration, such as missing details or credentials that no longer work. The reason shows under the status. |
| **Off** | No caller name is set: it was turned off, or the number left your account. |

Telnyx caller names have no review step: they stay **Submitted** for about 3
days, then turn **Approved** once ThunderPhone reads the listing back from
Telnyx. They never show **In review**. If the name is changed or removed in
your Telnyx account, the status becomes **Needs attention**.

ThunderPhone checks registrations under review about once an hour. Click
**Refresh status** to check now.
